FAQ

- Can I use software that has been purchased outside my country?
- Where do I get hold of Autodesk Service Packs?
To the right of this page you will find a series of links through to the Autodesk web site where Service Packs can be downloaded. It is vital that your Autodesk product is running with the latest Service Packs and other maintenance releases. The first response to many questions on technical errors within Autodesk software is: "Have you installed the latest Service Pack?" as these often resolve issues resulting from 'bugs' in the software. Please ensure you are running the latest Service Pack before calling for technical assistance.
To check the version of the software you are currently running and also the current Service Pack, follow the next steps:
- Within the Autodesk Design Software go to the Help pulldown.
- Click on About from the pulldown list:

This will display the information on the product you are running, who it is licensed to and very importantly the Serial Number.
- At the top right of this dialogue box, click on the Product Information button. This will open up a second dialogue box, where you can see additional information such as the build number, whether you install is Network or Standalone and also what Service Pack is currently installed.

Autodesk only allows use of the software in the country in which it has been purchased, unless the Autodesk software has been purchased in the European Union (EU) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in which case use in any country in the EU and/or EFTA is allowed This is a very important restriction on the use of Autodesk software.
For example, if you purchase Autodesk software in the United States, then you will not be able to use the software in the United Kingdom unless you are authorised by Autodesk to do so. This will require you to apply for a transfer of license from the country of purchase into the United Kingdom for use. A transfer fee may be charged for the transfer of license if approved by Autodesk to cover, amongst other things, the cost to Autodesk of processing the transfer. The transfer fee will be fixed by Autodesk from time to time.
- I have purchased an educational version of AutoCAD software for the classes I give at my school or university, can I use the software for any special projects that I or my students do where a consultation fee is charged for my or their services?
There are different versions of Autodesk software for different purposes. There are the commercial, educational, student and evaluation (or NFR - Not For Resale) versions. Each version has a different grant of use in the license agreement. If the Software is an Educational version, you may use it only for the purpose of educating your students. Educational versions of the Software may not be used for commercial, professional, or for-profit purposes. Therefore, using an education version of the software for special projects where a fee is charged will be a breach of the educational license agreement.

What is the difference between a standalone and a network version?
A standalone version runs on a separate PC, in which (every individual) licence is protected by a 'hardware lock' or 'software lock'.
A network licence runs on the network server and uses a 'floating license manager' in which you can log on to AutoCAD, for example, on any PC until the number of licences for which you are authorised is reached.
Is there also a network version for AutoCAD LT?
No, AutoCAD LT is only available as a standalone version.
Where can I find the system requirements for the Autodesk software?
The system requirements are specified on the website for each product. Click on "Products" at the top. In the list, click on the product of your choice. You will find the system requirements under the "Product Information" link. If the Products page contain no links, click on the link at the bottom to go to the US site where you can find details under "Features and Specifications", under "System Requirements".
Where can I find the right printer driver?
The drivers are supplied by the printer and plotter manufacturers and can often be downloaded from the Internet. A whole lot of drivers are supplied with AutoCAD, which may be found in the Autodesk Plotter Manager.
There are various drivers for the various AutoCAD versions and the specific operating systems. In some cases, Autodesk provides printer drivers, and these can be downloaded as service packs from www.autodesk.com/support. Sometimes newly issued service packs also contain improvements in printing and plotting.
